Our Name
KAPYA (pronounced kahp-yah) means "gate" in Turkish. It's the doorway between two worlds – the Turkey we grew up in and the Shanghai we now call home.

Our Founder
With over 15 years of experience opening and running restaurants across Shanghai, Ugur has watched this city evolve into one of the world's most exciting culinary capitals. Throughout these years, one thing remained constant: his desire to share the authentic tastes of his homeland.

Our Doors
Whether you're homesick for Turkish flavors, curious to try something new, or simply looking for a great meal in Jing'an, KAPYA welcomes you. Find us at 479-1, Wuding Lu, near Jiangning Lu – look for the doorway that leads to Turkey, right here in Shanghai.

I've had Turkish food in Istanbul, London, and Paris – KAPYA holds its own. The lamb shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the charcoal grill gives everything that unmistakable smoky flavor. But what really won me over was the rakı culture. They take it seriously here. A proper glass, a pitcher of water, and meze that's made to be savored. A true taste of Turkey in Shanghai.
Brought a group of 8 friends here for a birthday dinner, and it was a hit. We ordered a little of everything – the mixed grill platter was the star, but honestly every dish impressed. The space has a great vibe – lively but not too loud, perfect for conversation. Service was attentive even with our big group. Can't wait to come back for a casual dinner with my wife.
As a Turkish expat in Shanghai, I've been searching for a place that tastes like home. KAPYA is it. The Adana kebab brought me right back to Istanbul – perfectly spiced, grilled to perfection. And the rakı ritual? They do it right. Ugur came to our table, greeted us in Turkish, and made us feel like family. I'll be coming back weekly.
This was my first time trying Turkish food, and I'm already planning my next visit. The meze selection was perfect for sharing with friends – I loved the smoky eggplant and haydari. Our server explained everything patiently, even taught us how to drink rakı properly. The atmosphere is beautiful, and the location on Wuding Lu is so convenient. A wonderful discovery in Jing'an.
